#성경정독 #사사기18장 #개역개정 #RVR1960 #ESV 사사기 18장 공식 사이트 : http://www.prsi.org 본 영상은 CGNTV와 공동체성경읽기(PRS)가 공동기획하여 제작한 영상으로 무단으로 영상을 편집 및 재배포가 금지됩니다. 영상 제공 : CGNTV 제공 #공동체성경읽기#성경 #드라마바이블 #Bible #크리스천 #기독교 #설교 #말씀#성경낭독 제 18 장 미가와 단 지파 1 그 때에 이스라엘에 왕이 없었고 단 지파는 그 때에 거주할 기업의 땅을 구하는 중이었으니 이는 그들이 이스라엘 지파 중에서 그 때까지 기업을 분배 받지 못하였음이라 2 단 자손이 소라와 에스다올에서부터 그들의 가족 가운데 용맹스런 다섯 사람을 보내어 땅을 정탐하고 살피게 하며 그들에게 이르되 너희는 가서 땅을 살펴보라 하매 그들이 에브라임 산지에 가서 미가의 집에 이르러 거기서 유숙하니라 3 그들이 미가의 집에 있을 때에 그 레위 청년의 음성을 알아듣고 그리로 돌아가서 그에게 이르되 누가 너를 이리로 인도하였으며 네가 여기서 무엇을 하며 여기서 무엇을 얻었느냐 하니 4 그가 그들에게 이르되 미가가 이러이러하게 나를 대접하고 나를 고용하여 나를 자기의 제사장으로 삼았느니라 하니라 5 그들이 그에게 이르되 청하건대 우리를 위하여 하나님께 물어 보아서 우리가 가는 길이 형통할는지 우리에게 알게 하라 하니 6 그 제사장이 그들에게 이르되 평안히 가라 너희가 가는 길은 여호와 앞에 있느니라 하니라 7 이에 다섯 사람이 떠나 라이스에 이르러 거기 있는 백성을 본즉 염려 없이 거주하며 시돈 사람들이 사는 것처럼 평온하며 안전하니 그 땅에는 부족한 것이 없으며 부를 누리며 시돈 사람들과 거리가 멀고 어떤 사람과도 상종하지 아니함이라 8 그들이 소라와 에스다올에 돌아가서 그들의 형제들에게 이르매 형제들이 그들에게 묻되 너희가 보기에 어떠하더냐 하니 9 이르되 일어나 그들을 치러 올라가자 우리가 그 땅을 본즉 매우 좋더라 너희는 가만히 있느냐 나아가서 그 땅 얻기를 게을리 하지 말라 10 너희가 가면 평화로운 백성을 만날 것이요 그 땅은 넓고 그 곳에는 세상에 있는 것이 하나도 부족함이 없느니라 하나님이 그 땅을 너희 손에 넘겨 주셨느니라 하는지라 11 단 지파의 가족 중 육백 명이 무기를 지니고 소라와 에스다올에서 출발하여 12 올라가서 유다에 있는 기럇여아림에 진 치니 그러므로 그 곳 이름이 오늘까지 마하네 단이며 그 곳은 기럇여아림 뒤에 있더라 13 무리가 거기서 떠나 에브라임 산지 미가의 집에 이르니라 14 전에 라이스 땅을 정탐하러 갔던 다섯 사람이 그 형제들에게 말하여 이르되 이 집에 에봇과 드라빔과 새긴 신상과 부어 만든 신상이 있는 줄을 너희가 아느냐 그런즉 이제 너희는 마땅히 행할 것을 생각하라 하고 15 다섯 사람이 그 쪽으로 향하여 그 청년 레위 사람의 집 곧 미가의 집에 이르러 그에게 문안하고 16 단 자손 육백 명은 무기를 지니고 문 입구에 서니라 17 그 땅을 정탐하러 갔던 다섯 사람이 그리로 들어가서 새긴 신상과 에봇과 드라빔과 부어 만든 신상을 가져갈 때에 그 제사장은 무기를 지닌 육백 명과 함께 문 입구에 섰더니 18 그 다섯 사람이 미가의 집에 들어가서 그 새긴 신상과 에봇과 드라빔과 부어 만든 신상을 가지고 나오매 그 제사장이 그들에게 묻되 너희가 무엇을 하느냐 하니 19 그들이 그에게 이르되 잠잠하라 네 손을 입에 대라 우리와 함께 가서 우리의 아버지와 제사장이 되라 네가 한 사람의 집의 제사장이 되는 것과 이스라엘의 한 지파 한 족속의 제사장이 되는 것 중에서 어느 것이 낫겠느냐 하는지라 20 그 제사장이 마음에 기뻐하여 에봇과 드라빔과 새긴 우상을 받아 가지고 그 백성 가운데로 들어가니라 21 그들이 돌이켜서 어린 아이들과 가축과 값진 물건들을 앞세우고 길을 떠나더니 22 그들이 미가의 집을 멀리 떠난 때에 미가의 이웃집 사람들이 모여서 단 자손을 따라 붙어서 23 단 자손을 부르는지라 그들이 얼굴을 돌려 미가에게 이르되 네가 무슨 일로 이같이 모아 가지고 왔느냐 하니 24 미가가 이르되 내가 만든 신들과 제사장을 빼앗아 갔으니 이제 내게 오히려 남은 것이 무엇이냐 너희가 어찌하여 나더러 무슨 일이냐고 하느냐 하는지라 25 단 자손이 그에게 이르되 네 목소리를 우리에게 들리게 하지 말라 노한 자들이 너희를 쳐서 네 생명과 네 가족의 생명을 잃게 할까 하노라 하고 26 단 자손이 자기 길을 간지라 미가가 단 자손이 자기보다 강한 것을 보고 돌이켜 집으로 돌아갔더라 27 단 자손이 미가가 만든 것과 그 제사장을 취하여 라이스에 이르러 한가하고 걱정 없이 사는 백성을 만나 칼날로 그들을 치며 그 성읍을 불사르되 28 그들을 구원할 자가 없었으니 그 성읍이 베드르홉 가까운 골짜기에 있어서 시돈과 거리가 멀고 상종하는 사람도 없음이었더라 단 자손이 성읍을 세우고 거기 거주하면서 29 이스라엘에게서 태어난 그들의 조상 단의 이름을 따라 그 성읍을 단이라 하니라 그 성읍의 본 이름은 라이스였더라 30 단 자손이 자기들을 위하여 그 새긴 신상을 세웠고 1)모세의 손자요 게르솜의 아들인 요나단과 그의 자손은 단 지파의 제사장이 되어 그 땅 백성이 사로잡히는 날까지 이르렀더라 31 하나님의 집이 실로에 있을 동안에 미가가 만든 바 새긴 신상이 단 자손에게 있었더라 #Jueces 18 Micaía y los hombres de Dan 1. En aquellos días no había rey en Israel. Y en aquellos días la tribu de Dan buscaba posesión para sí donde habitar, porque hasta entonces no había tenido posesión entre las tribus de Israel. 2. Y los hijos de Dan enviaron de su tribu cinco hombres de entre ellos, hombres valientes, de Zora y Estaol, para que reconociesen y explorasen bien la tierra; y les dijeron: Id y reconoced la tierra. Estos vinieron al monte de Efraín, hasta la casa de Micaía, y allí posaron. 3. Cuando estaban cerca de la casa de Micaía, reconocieron la voz del joven levita; y llegando allá, le dijeron: ¿Quién te ha traído acá? ¿y qué haces aquí? ¿y qué tienes tú por aquí? 4. Él les respondió: De esta y de esta manera ha hecho conmigo Micaía, y me ha tomado para que sea su sacerdote. 5. Y ellos le dijeron: Pregunta, pues, ahora a Dios, para que sepamos si ha de prosperar este viaje que hacemos. 6. Y el sacerdote les respondió: Id en paz; delante de Jehová está vuestro camino en que andáis. 7. Entonces aquellos cinco hombres salieron, y vinieron a Lais; y vieron que el pueblo que habitaba en ella estaba seguro, ocioso y confiado, conforme a la costumbre de los de Sidón, sin que nadie en aquella región les perturbase en cosa alguna, ni había quien poseyese el reino. Y estaban lejos de los sidonios, y no tenían negocios con nadie. 8. Volviendo, pues, ellos a sus hermanos en Zora y Estaol, sus hermanos les dijeron: ¿Qué hay? Y ellos respondieron: 9. Levantaos, subamos contra ellos; porque nosotros hemos explorado la región, y hemos visto que es muy buena; ¿y vosotros no haréis nada? No seáis perezosos en poneros en marcha para ir a tomar posesión de la tierra. 10. Cuando vayáis, llegaréis a un pueblo confiado y a una tierra muy espaciosa, pues Dios la ha entregado en vuestras manos; lugar donde no hay falta de cosa alguna que haya en la tierra. 11. Entonces salieron de allí, de Zora y de Estaol, seiscientos hombres de la familia de Dan, armados de armas de guerra. 12. Fueron y acamparon en Quiriat-jearim en Judá, por lo cual llamaron a aquel lugar el campamento de Dan, hasta hoy; está al occidente de Quiriat-jearim. 13. Y de allí pasaron al monte de Efraín, y vinieron hasta la casa de Micaía. 14. Entonces aquellos cinco hombres que habían ido a reconocer la tierra de Lais dijeron a sus hermanos: ¿No sabéis que en estas casas hay efod y terafines, y una imagen de talla y una de fundición? Mirad, por tanto, lo que habéis de hacer. 15. Cuando llegaron allá, vinieron a la casa del joven levita, en casa de Micaía, y le preguntaron cómo estaba. 16. Y los seiscientos hombres, que eran de los hijos de Dan, estaban armados de sus armas de guerra a la entrada de la puerta. 17. Y subiendo los cinco hombres que habían ido a reconocer la tierra, entraron allá y tomaron la imagen de talla, el efod, los terafines y la imagen de fundición, mientras estaba el sacerdote a la entrada de la puerta con los seiscientos hombres armados de armas de guerra. 18. Entrando, pues, aquellos en la casa de Micaía, tomaron la imagen de talla, el efod, los terafines y la imagen de fundición. Y el sacerdote les dijo: ¿Qué hacéis vosotros? 19. Y ellos le respondieron: Calla, pon la mano sobre tu boca, y vente con nosotros, para que seas nuestro padre y sacerdote. ¿Es mejor que seas tú sacerdote en casa de un solo hombre, que de una tribu y familia de Israel? 20. Y se alegró el corazón del sacerdote, el cual tomó el efod y los terafines y la imagen, y se fue en medio del pueblo. 21. Y ellos se volvieron y partieron, y pusieron los niños, el ganado y el bagaje por delante. 22. Cuando ya se habían alejado de la casa de Micaía, los hombres que habitaban en las casas cercanas a la casa de Micaía se juntaron y siguieron a los hijos de Dan. 23. Y dando voces a los de Dan, estos volvieron sus rostros, y dijeron a Micaía: ¿Qué tienes, que has juntado gente? 24. Él respondió: Tomasteis mis dioses que yo hice y al sacerdote, y os vais; ¿qué más me queda? ¿Por qué, pues, me preguntáis qué me pasa? 25. Y los hijos de Dan le dijeron: No des voces tras nosotros, no sea que los de ánimo colérico os acometan, y pierdas también tu vida y la vida de los tuyos. 26. Y prosiguieron los hijos de Dan su camino, y Micaía, viendo que eran más fuertes que él, volvió y regresó a su casa. 27. Y ellos, llevando las cosas que había hecho Micaía, juntamente con el sacerdote que tenía, llegaron a Lais, al pueblo tranquilo y confiado; y los hirieron a filo de espada, y quemaron la ciudad. 28. Y no hubo quien los defendiese, porque estaban lejos de Sidón, y no tenían negocios con nadie. Y la ciudad estaba en el valle que hay junto a Bet-rehob. Luego reedificaron la ciudad, y habitaron en ella. 29. Y llamaron el nombre de aquella ciudad Dan, conforme al nombre de Dan su padre, hijo de Israel, bien que antes se llamaba la ciudad Lais. 30. Y los hijos de Dan levantaron para sí la imagen de talla; y Jonatán hijo de Gersón, hijo de Moisés, él y sus hijos fueron sacerdotes en la tribu de Dan, hasta el día del cautiverio de la tierra. 31. Así tuvieron levantada entre ellos la imagen de talla que Micaía había hecho, todo el tiempo que la casa de Dios estuvo en Silo. #Judges 18 Danites Take the Levite and the Idol 1. In those days there was no king in Israel. And in those days the tribe of the people of Dan was seeking for itself an inheritance to dwell in, for until then no inheritance among the tribes of Israel had fallen to them. 2. So the people of Dan sent five able men from the whole number of their tribe, from Zorah and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land and to explore it. And they said to them, “Go and explore the land.” And they came to the hill country of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, and lodged there. 3. When they were by the house of Micah, they recognized the voice of the young Levite. And they turned aside and said to him, “Who brought you here? What are you doing in this place? What is your business here?” 4. And he said to them, “This is how Micah dealt with me: he has hired me, and I have become his priest.” 5. And they said to him, “Inquire of God, please, that we may know whether the journey on which we are setting out will succeed.” 6. And the priest said to them, “Go in peace. The journey on which you go is under the eye of the Lord.” 7. Then the five men departed and came to Laish and saw the people who were there, how they lived in security, after the manner of the Sidonians, quiet and unsuspecting, lacking nothing that is in the earth and possessing wealth, and how they were far from the Sidonians and had no dealings with anyone. 8. And when they came to their brothers at Zorah and Eshtaol, their brothers said to them, “What do you report?” 9. They said, “Arise, and let us go up against them, for we have seen the land, and behold, it is very good. And will you do nothing? Do not be slow to go, to enter in and possess the land. 10. As soon as you go, you will come to an unsuspecting people. The land is spacious, for God has given it into your hands, a place where there is no lack of anything that is in the earth.” 11. So 600 men of the tribe of Dan, armed with weapons of war, set out from Zorah and Eshtaol, 12. and went up and encamped at Kiriath-jearim in Judah. On this account that place is called Mahaneh-dan to this day; behold, it is west of Kiriath-jearim. 13. And they passed on from there to the hill country of Ephraim, and came to the house of Micah. 14. Then the five men who had gone to scout out the country of Laish said to their brothers, “Do you know that in these houses there are an ephod, household gods, a carved image, and a metal image? Now therefore consider what you will do.” 15. And they turned aside there and came to the house of the young Levite, at the home of Micah, and asked him about his welfare. 16. Now the 600 men of the Danites, armed with their weapons of war, stood by the entrance of the gate. 17. And the five men who had gone to scout out the land went up and entered and took the carved image, the ephod, the household gods, and the metal image, while the priest stood by the entrance of the gate with the 600 men armed with weapons of war. 18. And when these went into Micah’s house and took the carved image, the ephod, the household gods, and the metal image, the priest said to them, “What are you doing?” 19. And they said to him, “Keep quiet; put your hand on your mouth and come with us and be to us a father and a priest. Is it better for you to be priest to the house of one man, or to be priest to a tribe and clan in Israel?” 20. And the priest’s heart was glad. He took the ephod and the household gods and the carved image and went along with the people. 21. So they turned and departed, putting the little ones and the livestock and the goods in front of them. 22. When they had gone a distance from the home of Micah, the men who were in the houses near Micah’s house were called out, and they overtook the people of Dan. 23. And they shouted to the people of Dan, who turned around and said to Micah, “What is the matter with you, that you come with such a company?” 24. And he said, “You take my gods that I made and the priest, and go away, and what have I left? How then do you ask me, ‘What is the matter with you?’” 25. And the people of Dan said to him, “Do not let your voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows fall upon you, and you lose your life with the lives of your household.” 26. Then the people of Dan went their way. And when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back to his home. 27. But the people of Dan took what Micah had made, and the priest who belonged to him, and they came to Laish, to a people quiet and unsuspecting, and struck them with the edge of the sword and burned the city with fire. 28. And there was no deliverer because it was far from Sidon, and they had no dealings with anyone. It was in the valley that belongs to Beth-rehob. Then they rebuilt the city and lived in it. 29. And they named the city Dan, after the name of Dan their ancestor, who was born to Israel; but the name of the city was Laish at the first. 30. And the people of Dan set up the carved image for themselves, and Jonathan the son of Gershom, son of Moses, and his sons were priests to the tribe of the Danites until the day of the captivity of the land. 31. So they set up Micah’s carved image that he made, as long as the house of God was at Shiloh.

제 18 장

미가와 단 지파

1 그 때에 이스라엘에 왕이 없었고 단 지파는 그 때에 거주할 기업의 땅을 구하는 중이었으니 이는 그들이 이스라엘 지파 중에서 그 때까지 기업을 분배 받지 못하였음이라

2 단 자손이 소라와 에스다올에서부터 그들의 가족 가운데 용맹스런 다섯 사람을 보내어 땅을 정탐하고 살피게 하며 그들에게 이르되 너희는 가서 땅을 살펴보라 하매 그들이 에브라임 산지에 가서 미가의 집에 이르러 거기서 유숙하니라

19 그들이 그에게 이르되 잠잠하라 네 손을 입에 대라 우리와 함께 가서 우리의 아버지와 제사장이 되라 네가 한 사람의 집의 제사장이 되는 것과 이스라엘의 한 지파 한 족속의 제사장이 되는 것 중에서 어느 것이 낫겠느냐 하는지라

20 그 제사장이 마음에 기뻐하여 에봇과 드라빔과 새긴 우상을 받아 가지고 그 백성 가운데로 들어가니라

21 그들이 돌이켜서 어린 아이들과 가축과 값진 물건들을 앞세우고 길을 떠나더니

22 그들이 미가의 집을 멀리 떠난 때에 미가의 이웃집 사람들이 모여서 단 자손을 따라 붙어서

En aquellos días no había rey en Israel. Y en aquellos días la tribu de Dan buscaba posesión para sí donde habitar, porque hasta entonces no había tenido posesión entre las tribus de Israel.
Y los hijos de Dan enviaron de su tribu cinco hombres de entre ellos, hombres valientes, de Zora y Estaol, para que reconociesen y explorasen bien la tierra; y les dijeron: Id y reconoced la tierra. Estos vinieron al monte de Efraín, hasta la casa de Micaía, y allí posaron.

Levantaos, subamos contra ellos; porque nosotros hemos explorado la región, y hemos visto que es muy buena; ¿y vosotros no haréis nada? No seáis perezosos en poneros en marcha para ir a tomar posesión de la tierra.
Cuando vayáis, llegaréis a un pueblo confiado y a una tierra muy espaciosa, pues Dios la ha entregado en vuestras manos; lugar donde no hay falta de cosa alguna que haya en la tierra.
Entonces salieron de allí, de Zora y de Estaol, seiscientos hombres de la familia de Dan, armados de armas de guerra.
Fueron y acamparon en Quiriat-jearim en Judá, por lo cual llamaron a aquel lugar el campamento de Dan, hasta hoy; está al occidente de Quiriat-jearim.
Y de allí pasaron al monte de Efraín, y vinieron hasta la casa de Micaía.
Entonces aquellos cinco hombres que habían ido a reconocer la tierra de Lais dijeron a sus hermanos: ¿No sabéis que en estas casas hay efod y terafines, y una imagen de talla y una de fundición? Mirad, por tanto, lo que habéis de hacer.
Cuando llegaron allá, vinieron a la casa del joven levita, en casa de Micaía, y le preguntaron cómo estaba.
Y los seiscientos hombres, que eran de los hijos de Dan, estaban armados de sus armas de guerra a la entrada de la puerta.
Y subiendo los cinco hombres que habían ido a reconocer la tierra, entraron allá y tomaron la imagen de talla, el efod, los terafines y la imagen de fundición, mientras estaba el sacerdote a la entrada de la puerta con los seiscientos hombres armados de armas de guerra.
Entrando, pues, aquellos en la casa de Micaía, tomaron la imagen de talla, el efod, los terafines y la imagen de fundición. Y el sacerdote les dijo: ¿Qué hacéis vosotros?
Y ellos le respondieron: Calla, pon la mano sobre tu boca, y vente con nosotros, para que seas nuestro padre y sacerdote. ¿Es mejor que seas tú sacerdote en casa de un solo hombre, que de una tribu y familia de Israel?
Y se alegró el corazón del sacerdote, el cual tomó el efod y los terafines y la imagen, y se fue en medio del pueblo.
Y ellos se volvieron y partieron, y pusieron los niños, el ganado y el bagaje por delante.
Cuando ya se habían alejado de la casa de Micaía, los hombres que habitaban en las casas cercanas a la casa de Micaía se juntaron y siguieron a los hijos de Dan.
Y dando voces a los de Dan, estos volvieron sus rostros, y dijeron a Micaía: ¿Qué tienes, que has juntado gente?
Él respondió: Tomasteis mis dioses que yo hice y al sacerdote, y os vais; ¿qué más me queda? ¿Por qué, pues, me preguntáis qué me pasa?
Y los hijos de Dan le dijeron: No des voces tras nosotros, no sea que los de ánimo colérico os acometan, y pierdas también tu vida y la vida de los tuyos.
Y prosiguieron los hijos de Dan su camino, y Micaía, viendo que eran más fuertes que él, volvió y regresó a su casa.
Y ellos, llevando las cosas que había hecho Micaía, juntamente con el sacerdote que tenía, llegaron a Lais, al pueblo tranquilo y confiado; y los hirieron a filo de espada, y quemaron la ciudad.
Y no hubo quien los defendiese, porque estaban lejos de Sidón, y no tenían negocios con nadie. Y la ciudad estaba en el valle que hay junto a Bet-rehob. Luego reedificaron la ciudad, y habitaron en ella.
Y llamaron el nombre de aquella ciudad Dan, conforme al nombre de Dan su padre, hijo de Israel, bien que antes se llamaba la ciudad Lais.
Y los hijos de Dan levantaron para sí la imagen de talla; y Jonatán hijo de Gersón, hijo de Moisés, él y sus hijos fueron sacerdotes en la tribu de Dan, hasta el día del cautiverio de la tierra.
Así tuvieron levantada entre ellos la imagen de talla que Micaía había hecho, todo el tiempo que la casa de Dios estuvo en Silo.

Danites Take the Levite and the Idol

In those days there was no king in Israel. And in those days the tribe of the people of Dan was seeking for itself an inheritance to dwell in, for until then no inheritance among the tribes of Israel had fallen to them.
So the people of Dan sent five able men from the whole number of their tribe, from Zorah and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land and to explore it. And they said to them, “Go and explore the land.” And they came to the hill country of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, and lodged there.
When they were by the house of Micah, they recognized the voice of the young Levite. And they turned aside and said to him, “Who brought you here? What are you doing in this place? What is your business here?”
And he said to them, “This is how Micah dealt with me: he has hired me, and I have become his priest.”
And they said to him, “Inquire of God, please, that we may know whether the journey on which we are setting out will succeed.”
And the priest said to them, “Go in peace. The journey on which you go is under the eye of the Lord.”
Then the five men departed and came to Laish and saw the people who were there, how they lived in security, after the manner of the Sidonians, quiet and unsuspecting, lacking nothing that is in the earth and possessing wealth, and how they were far from the Sidonians and had no dealings with anyone.
And when they came to their brothers at Zorah and Eshtaol, their brothers said to them, “What do you report?”
They said, “Arise, and let us go up against them, for we have seen the land, and behold, it is very good. And will you do nothing? Do not be slow to go, to enter in and possess the land.
As soon as you go, you will come to an unsuspecting people. The land is spacious, for God has given it into your hands, a place where there is no lack of anything that is in the earth.”
So 600 men of the tribe of Dan, armed with weapons of war, set out from Zorah and Eshtaol,
and went up and encamped at Kiriath-jearim in Judah. On this account that place is called Mahaneh-dan to this day; behold, it is west of Kiriath-jearim.
And they passed on from there to the hill country of Ephraim, and came to the house of Micah.
Then the five men who had gone to scout out the country of Laish said to their brothers, “Do you know that in these houses there are an ephod, household gods, a carved image, and a metal image? Now therefore consider what you will do.”
And they turned aside there and came to the house of the young Levite, at the home of Micah, and asked him about his welfare.
Now the 600 men of the Danites, armed with their weapons of war, stood by the entrance of the gate.
And the five men who had gone to scout out the land went up and entered and took the carved image, the ephod, the household gods, and the metal image, while the priest stood by the entrance of the gate with the 600 men armed with weapons of war.
And when these went into Micah’s house and took the carved image, the ephod, the household gods, and the metal image, the priest said to them, “What are you doing?”
And they said to him, “Keep quiet; put your hand on your mouth and come with us and be to us a father and a priest. Is it better for you to be priest to the house of one man, or to be priest to a tribe and clan in Israel?”
And the priest’s heart was glad. He took the ephod and the household gods and the carved image and went along with the people.
So they turned and departed, putting the little ones and the livestock and the goods in front of them.
When they had gone a distance from the home of Micah, the men who were in the houses near Micah’s house were called out, and they overtook the people of Dan.
And they shouted to the people of Dan, who turned around and said to Micah, “What is the matter with you, that you come with such a company?”
And he said, “You take my gods that I made and the priest, and go away, and what have I left? How then do you ask me, ‘What is the matter with you?’”
And the people of Dan said to him, “Do not let your voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows fall upon you, and you lose your life with the lives of your household.”
Then the people of Dan went their way. And when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back to his home.
But the people of Dan took what Micah had made, and the priest who belonged to him, and they came to Laish, to a people quiet and unsuspecting, and struck them with the edge of the sword and burned the city with fire.
And there was no deliverer because it was far from Sidon, and they had no dealings with anyone. It was in the valley that belongs to Beth-rehob. Then they rebuilt the city and lived in it.
And they named the city Dan, after the name of Dan their ancestor, who was born to Israel; but the name of the city was Laish at the first.
And the people of Dan set up the carved image for themselves, and Jonathan the son of Gershom, son of Moses, and his sons were priests to the tribe of the Danites until the day of the captivity of the land.
So they set up Micah’s carved image that he made, as long as the house of God was at Shiloh.
